Americana

We sing songs about the Devil.  Some Kind of Infernal Machine is a quartet playing spookified Americana originals and covers on effects-heavy keyboard, electric ukulele, electric-acoustic guitar, bass, banjo, kazoo, and … well, we don’t like to limit ourselves.  Musical influences include Tom Waits, Nick Cave, and Chelsea Wolfe. Non-musical influences include New England folklore and the D&D Monster Manual. 

We play an eclectic mix of romantic/meditative instrumental tunes from variety of traditions and genres, including movie themes, gospel/hymns/worship, classical, and the American Songbook.

From Stevie Wonder to James Taylor, John Coltrane to Carole King, classic songs to original compositions…join The Moscas and traverse the styles, sounds, and genres of music with freedom and spontaneity. There will be banjo.

Banjovillian is Brian Wilson, Catherine Miller, and Somerville resident Julia Poirier. We play old-time tunes on banjo and fiddle, trading off on melody and harmony and our own individual variations. Sometimes we sing, too; and we encourage audience members to move their feet to the old-time beat. This is what music was like before it became a spectator sport. We plan to play for the entire 2-hour time slot (yes, really), 4-6pm. So y'all come on over and set a spell, or dance to the trance groove of old-time music.

Serving up unvarnished lyrical truths, Doc Huth and the Uncouth Youth will put hair on your tooth but go down smooth as vermouth. For decades this acclaimed string band has enraptured audiences of all ages with an eclectic fusion of bluegrass, folk, punk, and rock that will have you tapping your feet, dampening your cheeks, and crying out for more!
