Somerville Symphony Orkestar

Music Genre:
Porchfest Sub Genre:
Band Description:

Blossoming Somerville, MA, the Somerville Symphony Orkestar is a gypsy-punk band. After releasing their first album in 2011, the band has performed on WERS, the ArtBeat Festival, and Boston's First night. Raised by gypsy badgers, Joel Edinberg founded the SSO after meeting guitarist and space cowboy Travis Pullman, along with Richey Talley. After searching the Siberian wilderness for the finest musicians, they met up with Gabriel Solomon, Pete Fanelli, and Matt Ellis. With their powers combined, the SSO beats Balkan, Klezmer, and Rock music into a funk-punky pulp. Six-piece arrangements reign in the chaos only to explode into equal parts mosh-pit and horah.

Sheboom

Music Genre:
Band Description:

SheBoom began in 2010 as a Brazilian drumming class that was meant to last four weeks, but stretched out over the past three years. We meet once a week to practice, and learn new rhythms from our teacher, Brazilian master percussionist Marcus Santos. Sometimes we pack up our surdos and agogos, congas, snares, and repiniques and play in living rooms, backyards, parades, and once by an incredible stroke of beginner's luck, a three-minute set at Ryles Jazz Club. Sheboom members are Julie Schneider, Adria Steinberg, Janet Axelrod, Deborah Pacini, Janine Fay, Candyce Dostert, Margaret Ryan, and Lesley Bannatyne.
PLEASE NOTE: We will be performing from 12 to 1:00 only.
