Funk

The Somervillains are a group of musicians who have been playing with each other for years who love all things jazz, funk, hip-hop, and beyond. Come on down from 2-4 PM as they play arrangements of songs spanning new and old including the likes of Kanye West, Flying Lotus, Drake, Boyz II Men, and Miles Davis.

This year's incarnation consists of:

The eclectic sounds of funk, rock, jazz and indie with a cello and guitar.

Spontaneous groovy originals and improvisations with a small but effective acoustic instrumentation. Who knows what will happen!

We have neighbors rocking out at 2pm and at 4pm, so we're going to play 3pm-4pm.

The Street Holler Serenade is an after school club at SHS which has been inspired by Honk fest, taking back public space, and street performing in general. One thing that makes our group different is that we aim to include electric guitars and basses by using portable battery powered amplifiers

B3 Kings will be playing on the Patio of the Independent from 6:00pm - 8:00pm. They are a three piece band playing an organ, bass and electric guitar. Their genre is soul, boogaloo, blues, funk, and rock.

The Legendary Vudu Krewe is a showcase of quirky R&B and funk, much from New Orleans. Made up of some of Boston’s most prominent session players such as Paul Ahlstrand, Grammy-award winner Ducky Carlisle, and the infamous Chandler Travis, their annual Mardi Gras and Bastille Day parties have been a local mainstay for 20+ years and have featured special guests from all over the Boston music, like Tanya Donelly, Barrence Whitfield, Jesse Dee, and Casey Desmond.

The Gravel Project plays a fusion of blues, funk, jazz and rock, and has been creating buzz in Boston and New Hampshire, and gaining momentum along the East Coast. The Gravel Project electrifies crowds with inventive original songs, creative interpretations of well known classics, and red hot group improvisation – they know how to get their fans up and onto the dance floor!

The Odells: a wide-ranging collective offering rock, soul, and New Orleans funk played with deep respect to the originators flavored with fresh, of-the-moment improvisational interpretations and jams.

Current lineup includes Winter Hill resident Scott Farrell (guitar, bass, vocals), Andy Kearney (keyboards, vocals), Kurt Overberg (drums), Neil Overberg (guitar, bass) and guest Alex Lembo (guitar, vocals) sitting in for our friend Aaron Belyea who made prior plans to enjoy the actual New Orleans.

Fusing Rock, Funk, Jazz and beyond, Celebrity Look-Alikes generates a dance-fueled experience, launching the listener into a Psychedelic Soundscape. In a case of mistaken identity, the band members were once mauled by a swarm of enthused movie-star fans. Formed in 2014 in Boston, MA, Celebrity Look-Alikes released their debut EP in 2015. Almost a boy-band, the Look-Alikes really just need more vocal harmonies.

Six to Midnight will be opening up for Celebrity Look-Alikes at 4:00PM. If you like weird garage rock cover bands....then you will like S2M. Six to Midnight is....
