Home Alone Art Series

CALL FOR ARTISTS:

The Somerville Arts Council enjoys bringing people together. Through our events we are able to support artists financially. We understand the importance of social distancing yet we also want to stay connected and continue to support artists as much as we can. So we are launching the “Home Alone Art Series.” Our goal is to hire and pay Somerville artists (both residents and those who have a studio in the city) who are experiencing financial difficulties because of Covid-19.

Home Alone Art Series (HAAS) is a series of art related performances live streamed by you on Facebook! The performances can represent a variety of genres, including: Music, Visual Arts, Performance, Writing, Theater, Dance and Multidisciplinary art forms. HAAS will be scheduled throughout the month; we will provide a schedule to share and follow.

How it works: Submit your proposals via email. Describe your proposed presentation, which could be a performance, an instructional video workshop, a lecture, an arts and crafts session (get creative!). The presentation should be a minimum of forty-five minutes to an hour (timing can include intro and Q & A). When submissions are received, the Arts Council will curate, choosing a selection of artists to participate.

Once participants have been selected, a one-on-one virtual meeting with the artist and event coordinator is required as we need to talk about the proposal, structure time and instructions.

A schedule will be created, which will include: date, time, a short description of your live stream segment, and a link to your Facebook. This schedule will be promoted via social media and on our website.

We will send instructions on how to set up a livestream and how to make it public for all.

Additional information: Have a Facebook account and be willing to learn how to use Live Stream. Must be willing to update viewers with HAAS calendar details and help promote the following performances.

Compensation: You will be paid $300 for your live performance and will be paid via our City system which will take 5-7 weeks for you to receive a check.  We will need a W-9 completed. If you have a Go Fund Me portal to receive additional support, we will work with you on embedding that link into your live performance.  If you do not have an account we can use our donation portal to receive and send you proceeds.

*This call is meant for Somerville artists who work freelance and have been directly affected by the cancellations and closures of Covid-19 and who don’t have financial support from family or a working spouse. 2020 SAC LCC Project grant recipients are disqualified. However, if you are an LCC Fellowship awardee and still need to complete your community benefit, this virtual platform may serve as a means of completion to receive your fellowship stipend.  However, we will not be paying fellowship applicants the stated minimum stipend. Please understand we are trying to help those who are in need.*

Submission deadline: Rolling deadline based on funding and Covid-19 crisis.
