Somerville Arts Council Seeks Three New Seeks Members

Open Positions: Three

Term: Three years; with a possibility of renewing for up to one more three-year term.

The City of Somerville Arts Council, an advisory and ministerial multiple-member body of the city, seeks three new members. Residents with arts (broadly defined), community development, program development expertise or experience are preferred, but all Somerville residents are invited to apply.

The estimated time commitment for members is a minimum of 1.5 hours per month for monthly meetings, with an increase to 10 hours a month during LCC grant panel season (September through December). Volunteering further hours for events is up to the discretion of individual members. This is an unpaid volunteer position.

The mission of the Arts Council is to cultivate and celebrate the creative expressions of the Somerville community. The Somerville Arts Council Board serves in an advisory role to the staff of the Arts Council, and as volunteers to many of the Arts Council's events and activities. The Somerville Arts Council is the local cultural council (LCC) for the City of Somerville, and sponsors annual programs and events designed to support local artists and arts organizations, bring artists and Somerville residents together for community celebrations which build a sense of community and explore the arts, and advocate for the arts at the community, state, and national levels.

The deadline for submitting a statement of interest is four weeks after the publishing of the call (December 27, 2022) and will continue until positions are filled. After application and interview, candidates are appointed by the Mayor.
