The Funk. Groove-factory. Hammond-zapping, and Clav-tapping. That’s the way it should be; a solid groove sounds easy.

Music appears to come effortlessly from this indie troubadour, though there's a lot of hard work behind it. "I guess the term country-soul works,'' says Jess, whose talent really eludes simple boundaries. She currently has a Friday night residency at the Boston-area club Bull McCabe's, where the cream of Boston's roots musicians join her. Jess anchors the event with her twinkle light adorned keyboard, and her drop-dead stunning voice. With her shoes perpetually kicked off, she plays vintage covers by Cindy Walker, Van Morrison and Dan Penn, among others.

Jeremiah Birnbaum is a "rootsy, soulful troubadour" (Time Out, London) with his own brand of "raucous alt-country...a rabbi's son with a touch of whiskey burning his soul" (New York Magazine, Critic's Pick). His most recent release is "Lucky," recorded stripped-down and mostly live in the studio. By January 2013, the record reached #31 on the Roots Music Report charts for New York artists, receiving spins coast-to-coast on many independent folk radio stations, including WFUV in New York.
