Bluegrass

Take four people from Louisiana, Vermont, Connecticut, and Sweden.
Add equal parts of folk, old-fashioned country, with a pinch
of bluegrass and gospel. Put it into a pot of cover tunes from
the last century. Spice with plenty of harmony vocals and add an
original or two. That's Tail - rootsy, acoustic, and pleasant.

What to expect? Songs of Neil Young, Beatles, Dylan, Traditionals,
Steve Earl, Grateful Dead, Pixies, 80’s pop\70s hits, originals.
All presented with a very personal touch.

Yani is an accomplished banjoist, and vocalist. She describes her music as mountain style, or “vintage country”.

Gone To Seed got its start in 2009 after a lively musical duel with a group across the street brought this fresh MA-based string band onto the front porch and out into the open. Based on bluegrass and old-time music, the band blends hints of jazz, folk and rock into their ‘roots-grass’ sound.

Their self-titled EP, released in October 2011, combines dynamic original tunes with vibrant covers that together pay tribute to the legacy of artists such as David Grisman and Bob Dylan, and the rising musical influence of bands like Old Crow Medicine Show and Trampled by Turtles.

The Charnwood Pickers is an official “band” only for porchfest, otherwise, we are a group of friends who get together to pick folk, bluegrass, and country on a semi-regular basis.

The Fort Point Ramblers play bluegrass! Formed in the spring of 2011, FPR plays a mix of classic bluegrass songs, fiddle tunes, interesting covers, and originals. Members are:

The Highland Drifters formed when the Highalnd Kitchen opened (Highland and Central, Somerville) as their Sunday bluegrass/country brunch band, and continue to play there every week during brunch. There is, after all, nothing quite like a bloody mary, some crispy pancakes, and a good fiddle tune.
The Highland Drifters are ready, willing, and able to play your wedding, party, or event with good humor and three-part harmonies. Specialties include old-time, bluegrass, classic country, and Texas swing.
