Mexican native and Nibble Star Cooking Instructor, Estela Calzada, is back to teach us the art of the ultimate Mexican comfort food - Tamales!
In this bi-lingual class, Estela will demonstrate the proper technique to wrap your homemade tamales in her native Spanish language —as Catherine Aiello translates into English. Estela is the real deal: she used to cook at Somerville’s Tu y Yo restaurant and several of her recipes still grace the menu there. Come prepared to get up to your elbows in fresh Masa. We'll be making two types of tamales: a pollo con salsa verde (chicken with a green salsa) and a tamale dulce con piña (sweet tamale with pinapple). While our tamales cook, Estela will demonstrate how to make a fresh salad out of cactus, and a rich chocolate beverage made out of corn.
Bring an appetite, and apron, and a container to take home a few of your husk-wrapped goodies!
