The festival of Ugadi, Sanskrit for “the beginning of a new age” is widely celebrated across a large part of Southern India. It marks the beginning of the new year according to the lunar calendar that is traditionally followed.
Join us on this day of Ugadi to prepare traditional South Indian fare with Somerville resident Jayanth Jagaulr-Mohan. We will be preparing Bisi Bele Bath (a vegetarian dish made of rice, lentil, vegetables and assorted spices) typically served during festivals and banquets, which we will enjoy with simple cucumber salad and Moong dal payasa (pudding made from lentils, milk, and sugar).
