Winter in Nepal means a large pot of simmering Gundruk! Gundruk, a satisfying stew made from dried mustard leaf greens, mushrooms, and a range of rich spices, is the National dish of Nepal — and a cultural symbol of perseverance in the rough mountain terrain of the Himalayas.
In this hands-on class, mother and daughter team of Debaki and Samjhana Lamichhane (often found working in their family store, New Bombay Market in Union Square) will help us endure these last few weeks of winter by demonstrating the method for making gundruk and homemade Achar (Nepalese pickle). Together we’ll sit down for a traditional Nepalese meal – we dare you to eat the curry with your hands!
