This year our theme is "RED."
The Somerville Arts Council presents one of the area's largest and most innovative arts festivals. This year our theme is "RED." There will be over a dozen bands plus dance troupes, 75 craft vendors, food and red-themed activities including a Red Menace Parade.
Red is a color you can’t ignore. The hue is many things: hot, passionate and life sustaining—and we think, an apt theme for a hot summer festival. We encourage artists to explore red in various ways, both literally and figuratively. Visual artists might explore the many shades of red—from crimson to cardinal—or how red signifies blood, which can convey birth, life, but death as well. Dancers might explore themes of love and longing. Other artists might explore the fiery side of red in the form of lava or warming campfires. Red is also the color of debt, communism, power ties and tomato sauce. We could go on and on—but we look forward to your creative interpretations of this year’s theme!
