I try to go narrow and deep with my music. I think it comes out in the way I play accordion.
Highlights of the past 20 years include performing solo electronic music in ten countries, playing with the School of Honk brass band in countless unanounced parades through Somerville, and gigging with my sax/melodica/accordion trio, Brocade*. My latest passion is the traditional music of southeastern Europe (the Balkans) learning to play it on accordion. I'll be sitting in my house Saturday, playing some music from those parts, plus a bit of dance music from elsewhere in the world,.
*MY not as in ownership, but my like my family

It’s hard to know what to say about The Impromptus. That’s because the band is You. You’ll select the instruments and the style and guide your high-strung but friendly virtual musicians through their performance. While you’re at it, you’ll choreograph an animated visual artwork that echoes the (presumably ingenious) music flowing from your fingertips.

Join as we march from the Elm Street Stage, down Elm Street, and to the main stage in Seven Hills Park, all while Grooversity lead the way with their boisterous drumming. Led by Marcus Santos, the ensemble melds world rhythms like West African Kuku, Brazilian Samba, Japanese Taiko, American Funk and Hip Hop into a highly engaging—and mobile!—show.

Boston-based group Juan Carlos Ruiz & Friends play a lively blend of Venezuelan and Latin American folk music. The band is influenced heavily by members’ music education experiences at Berklee College of Music, drawing from styles including jazz, hard-bop, and classical. When the band recently played a Nibble event, a spontaneous dance party erupted; expect the same at ArtBeat!

Klezwoods is a wild amalgam of strings, horns, and percussion that melds the spirit of Jewish, Eastern European, Arabic, and North African music traditions with modern grooves, improvisation, and melodic interplay. The ensemble serves as a truly modern American melting pot of musical cultures, as each world renowned performer brings a unique voice and musical background to the mix.

Zaira Meneses and Juan Carlos Marin make up the new Boston-based band, El Huateque. The duo came together in 2018 after receiving a Boston Foundation grant. El Huateque play Son Jarocho music, a genre that hails from Veracruz, Mexico. Influenced mostly by African rhythms, Spanish techniques, sephardi melodies, and native Mexican music, Son Jarocho is largely improvisational in style. The resulting songs touch on stories from the port of Veracruz, with verses and phrases inspired by workers, fisherman, exotic birds, and other wild animal from the region.
