Taste the flavors of both Central and Latin America in this two part cooking class. Ysora will start us off with a favorite snack enjoyed by all Venezuelans: Arepas. The go to Venezuelan sandwich bread, this corn flour based bread acts as the vehicle for a number of tasty fillings. This class will feature a traditional stuffed arepa with black beans, fresh cheese, and sauce. Those who were fortunate enough to taste Ysora’s Arepas at the Nibble Open Kitchens event last year, will now get a chance to learn how to make these tasty treats from the master herself. Wash these arepas down with Tisana, a refreshing Venezuelan fruit punch with less sugar than the American variety. We’ll then switch gears and jump 2500 miles North to learn about sopa tipica de la costa, caldo de mariscos, or shrimp soup. This soup can be made many different ways, but Lydia's features a medley of hearty vegetables like potatoes and carrots and seasoned with garlic, onions and a little chipotle chile. Top off your hot soup with a squeeze of lime, fresh cilantro, and spices to your liking and settle into a hot bowl on a spring evening. You get two teachers for the price of one.
