Cover Letter is back for Porchfest 2016! Clarinetist and Saxophonist Michael Sachs and bassist Aaron Darrell are friends from Berklee College of Music, where they both studied. Beyond Berklee, they continued to work together, touring, performing, and recording original music with the chamber-pop-free-jazz trio Matador. After Matador's drummer Jun Young Song moved home to Korea, Michael and Aaron continued to perform as a duo. The pair maintain a musical relationship despite geographical limitations; Michael lives in Brooklyn, and Aaron lives at 78 Pearson Ave. in Somerville. This year, we will be joined by drummer and musician Tom Wandell, a New York native.

Michael Sachs (clarinet & vocals, NYC) and Aaron Darrell (bass & vocals, SVILLE) met in Boston around 2009. They formed a band with drummer Jun Young Song called MATADOR, which held down a monthly residency in Cambridge for a year and half, and published their debut recording on BIRN records, BIRN's first release as well. Since then they have both been active touring musicians, parading around the country sharing their unique style of composition and improvisation. After Jun left for Korea, Aaron & Michael formed the duo "Cover Letter" composed of music written by both members. It is at once beautiful and frightening, and loaded with sparkling personality.
