Mexican native Estela Calzada is back to prepare a Day of the Dead Feast! (Vegetarian options available)
A native of Durango, Mexico, Estela Calzada will teach attendees to create a Mexican meal speaking Spanish—as Catherine Aiello translates into English. Estela is the real deal: she used to cook at Somerville’s Tu y Yo restaurant and several of her recipes still grace the menu there! We will make classic Dia de los Muertos dishes, including several different types of tamales: vegetarian; chicken with mole; pork with salsa verde; and sweet tamales with raisons and chocolate. We will also make champurrado, a chocolate atole, a masa-based hot corn beverage flavored with cinnamon. After our tamalada (tamale-making party), we will sit down to feast and learn more about Mexican Dia de los Muertos traditions, like altars to honor the dead and sugar skulls. **vegetarian friendly
** We are excited to offer a English-Spanish bilingual class! This class is open to all but especially recommended to those looking to practice a little español and Mexican cooking. ¡ándale!
