Like Water for Chocolate: Mexican Mole with Taza chocolate

A native of Durango, Mexico, Estela Calzada will teach attendees to make Mole, one of Mexico’s most famous—and romantic!—dishes.

There's a moment in the book, Like Water for Chocolate, when the character Pedro comes into the kitchen to find Tita grinding almonds for her mole, and the two share a charged moment. So much love goes into Tita's cooking, those who eat her food feel love—and even arousal! Just in time for Valentine's Day, Estela will teach us all how to cook mole with love, using a wide variety of ingredients including different nuts, seeds, chiles and Taza chocolate. During this hands-on class, Estela will teach students how to roast chiles, grind spices and mix everything together con amor! Estela will serve her delicious version of mole with Mexican rice and a drink we'll make together: Agua de Tamarindo (Tamarind juice). Once our feast is ready, we will sit down and eat and learn more about Mexican culinary and cultural traditions. Estela worked for two years at Somerville’s Tu Y You restaurant and is currently working and curating the menu at Olé in Inman Square. She's the real deal!

The charismatic Estela will speak Spanish while a translator offers full English translation.
