Capacity: 

for the cultural community → Expand the Somerville cultural community’s access to resources, information, and skills for both organizations and individuals to build their networks and continue to grow their practices.
for the City of Somerville → Build relationships and pathways that provide the City of Somerville with information and capability to create programs and policies that weave the City more closely with its cultural communities. 

Culture:

Culture encompasses arts, along with other expressions of social norms of human societies.

as a “shared space” → The prevailing beliefs, values, and customs of a group; a group’s way of life 
as “activities and practices” → a set of practices that contain, transmit, or express ideas, values, habits, and behaviors between individuals and groups.

Culture in this sense is the way in which we express ourselves in the here and now through time and history.

Our definition of cultural capacity will: 

Expand access to resources, information, and skills for cultural organizations and individuals in Somerville to build their networks and continue to grow their practices while providing information to the City in order to create programs and policies that weave the city more closely with its cultural communities.
