Even as a young artist in the late 1950s, Frank Stella had no interest in representational painting. He was something of a maverick, playing with geometric patterns and abstract ideas. His works included painting, print making, set design, costuming and more. He’s best known for his radically reshaped canvases, protractor-inspired curvilinear forms, and stripes of brightly colored commercial house paint.
