A recent Artist Fellowship Finalist from the Massachusetts Cultural Council, Johanna was trained in the tradition of hand bookbinding at the North Bennet Street School in Boston, MA. She has been a visual artist since her early years and uses her craft school training and artistic skills to create mixed media sculpture. Her sculptures often take the shape of animals and often tell a story. She was an Artist-in-Residence at the Grand Canyon National Park in 2013 and worked on a collaborative project about that Park that involves interactive sculpture and photography. She has shown her work regionally, nationally, and internationally and takes commissions. Johanna has been teaching for many years and enjoys watching students, from children to adults, get creative and come up with new ideas for mixed media artworks using the different skills she can offer.
