Union Sq Video Projection Series

You are here

Union Square Video Projection Series is a presentation of digital projection art shown on a building facade in Union Square, Somerville. The projections will run evenings November 2020, December 2020 and January 2021.

This Projection Series was curated by Andrew Ringler. Curator's statement:
Artists from the greater Somerville area responded to an open call for video work this Summer. From the body of works submitted three major themes emerged: Storytelling, Abstraction and Dance across 10 projects and over 13 individual artists and artist collaboratives. We will show works from each group looping, evenings in November, December and January.

In the Storytelling group Angelina Lin tells a story through revealed text and images. Tomer Zirkilevich Company explores the boundaries of storytelling within remote video sharing and projection. Karen Aqua pushes the boundaries of color and motion in a selection of her works.

In December we will see four projects in the Abstraction group. Keaton Fox explores history, and deletion through found video. Maria Servellon explores human form, beauty and abstraction. Allison Tanenhaus transforms archival video through glitch and transformation. Maria Fong explores the passage of time through ink.

In January we will complete this video series with our third group: Dance. Stephanie Sherman in collaboration with Michal Hall and Melissa Castro explore autonomy through dance and dolls. Mike Brun and Margaret Wiss explore intimacy and coordination in short vignettes. Carven Boursiquot explores relationships through dance.
