Reflections by Betsy Lenora

Reflections……… Not a day goes by we don’t reflect in some way. Whether it is literally, passing a mirror, glancing at our reflection in a storefront window, or engaging in the process of deep, careful thought; reflection is a part of our daily life. In our busy lives, it can go unnoticed until we stop, pause, and look—to reflect. Images reflected back to us can be distorted versions of reality while at other times they are mirrored replicas. Photographer Betsy Lenora leans into this process, capturing a magical moment where life stands still and we get to see our life through another lens.

About the Artist
As a self-taught photographer, I have pursued my interest in photography since I moved to Somerville 50 years ago. I experimented with different subjects while preferring to capture what I think of as ‘magic’ within the beauty of the natural world. I am especially delighted by reflections.

REFLECTIONS is an exploration of what we see in everyday life. The places we frequent, the places; we are drawn to–reflections of boats in the ocean, house reflections in the Mystic River, and wildlife reflected in Alewife Brook. Through the camera’s eye, abstracts and refractions of color create a vibrant palette, giving me the opportunity to be a painter without a brush. However, it is the water reflections after the rain that are the most magical. Seemingly ordinary puddles that would normally go unnoticed dance in the light are especially exciting to me. It is an undiscovered world a beauty that says ‘Aha!, I see you’. May you enjoy this ‘Aha!’ moment when viewing this exhibit.

About the Inside-Out Gallery
Initiated in 2009, The Inside-Out Gallery is located in the CVS Window in Davis Square, a unique space that allows the public to view an eclectic array of works from artists and local organizations each month. The mission of the Somerville Arts Council is to cultivate and celebrate the creative expressions of the Somerville community. Through innovative collaborations and quality programming we work to make the arts an integral part of life reflective of our diverse city.
