ArtsUnion - Events 2008
Once again, the Arts Council is teaming up with a talented group of producers; some individuals, some organizations. Here's how we round 'em up: We put out a call for producers, review applications, and pick the cream of the crop. Then we work closely with the selected applicants to help them produce events, but the creativity and curatorial talent is theirs!
Please see this year's call to producers.

An EVENT featuring mod motors and mayhem
School may be back in session, and at the Somerville Moped-Scooter Rally & Concourse, we’re celebrating the 3R’s— riding, racing and reducing your carbon footprint. The Somerville Arts Councils and moped maestro Todd Sargent
take a cue from this year’s ArtBeat and present an event highlighting alternative transport and the coolest urban rides. The evening will feature a rally of two-wheelers (up to 250cc), all vying to become king of the road. Crowds will be entertained by short films on shootering and clips from Quadrophenia, the film that put mod mopeds onthe map. The Sharp Darts, The Broken River Prophets (www.myspace.com/thebrokenriverprophets), the December Sound (www.myspace.com/thedecembersound) will perform at the rally. So if you’ve got your own set of wheels, come out to join the mania. Bikers and non-bikers alike are welcome to ride or just enjoy the spectacle.
***Event producer Todd Sargent is available for interviews: Contact him by phone at 617-719-6449 or by email at toddlewis65@yahoo.com

What the Fluff? A Tribute to Union Square Invention. Election Special!
Sat, Sept 27 (raindate Sunday, September 28); 4-7pm
Union Square Plaza

We're making the festival ever bigger this year with two stages, higher profile guests (like DJs from WFNX The Sandbox will MC our "shenanigans" stage) and special invited guests providing an even wider assortment of Fluff food like whoopie pies from Petsi Pies, smores from the Girls Scouts and Taza Chocolate, treats from Kick Ass Cupcakes.
But we've got all the same silly, DIY fun too like the Fluff Lick Off, Hair Dos, and what not.

This year five local artists, inspired by the kid who dresses up each year at the event as Fluff Boy, created a Fluff scale comic book about the origins of Fluff Boy. It's incredibly cool. The original art will be on display and we'll sell the comic books at the event.
