Elm Street Plaza Happenings (between Starbucks & Chipotle Grill)

11:45pm — Sunsetters
Comprised of 32 Somerville teens, the Sunsetters is a traveling singing and dancing group that performs modern renditions of classic Broadway and popular dance tunes. A popular group in the 1970s and 80s, Mayor Curtatone reinstated the Sunsetters during the summer of 2005 as part of his goal to increase youth programming in the city. The Sunsetters are under the direction of Michele Keating, and choreographers Marybeth Brennan and Susan McNamara.

12:30pm — PeanutButter & Jelly Dance Company
Green the plaza in this workshop/ performance for families! Help the Peanut Butter&Jelly Dance Company create and perform a new dance among the holes and spaces within a green landscape of ribbons and fabrics.

2:00pm — Pixie Sticks
The Pixie Sticks are an inter-generational band of Arlington and Somerville residents who love playing and singing with little kids and their families. They will entertain with their lively, interactive sing-along; singing songs like “Wheels on the bus”, “Riding in the car” and “Oh susannah”! Come see them play mandolin, bass, coconuts, sandpaper, autoharp and guitar.

3:00pm — Ruckus Muckus
Unsuspecting passers by may not make much note of an unassuming tree in their path. That is until they startle at a well-timed rustle! Imagine if you will a curious tree come to fantastical life with greenery chasing little kiddies through the street. Ruckus Muckus, a Somervillian performance artist promises you a giggle (or perhaps two) when you discover the real surprise hidden inside!
