Rumaxe Group directed by Marcus Santos

This local Brazilian six-piece band mixes folkloric and religious rhythms with electronic beats. Three percussionists—on Surdos, Congas, Timbal and other Brazilian instruments—a drummer and a DJ play rhythms like Ijexa, Samba, Samba-reggae and Maracatu. This upbeat music is designed to get people moving!

7pm

Pee Wee Fist

Pee Wee FistThe Pee Wee Fist is a band of Somervillians who mingle traditional rock instruments like guitar, bass and drums with non-traditional ones like accordion, theremin, banjo and Omnichord. Their experimental tendencies and d. i. y. resourcefulness have gained them a reputation as an innovative and exciting young ensemble. They recently released "The Rusty Bantam LP" which features eleven soul stirring songs and an enchanting live video.

8:20pm

Duotone

DuoToneDuoTone (DJ Flack and DJ C) create danceable collages of beats and sounds using turntables, mixers, laptops, and microphones. The duo constantly research eclectic combinations fusing hiphop, dancehall, jungle, dub, and just about everything else into new sonic compounds. At this special Art Beat performance they will also incorporate their playful interactive-multimedia video projections.

9:20pm

Playmation: A Program of Animated Shorts

Playmation Curated by Karen Aqua, this screening of short, playful animated delights includes films by local artists Mary Kocol, Gina Kamentsky, Ruthie Ristich, Karen Aqua (all from Somerville), Geoff Adams, Tim Szetela & Jamie Maxfield. A lively selection of animated birds, frogs, pets, horses, penguins, candy, caterpillars, bridesmaids and other surprises. For all ages.

10:20pm

Electric Video Move

ElectroVideoMoveElectroVideoMove is an improvisation by electronic musicians, video artists and dancers. Each set combines a different musician and video artist with dancers. The setlist is determined randomly before each performance. EVM has been performing at least once a month since January at venues around Boston and in New York City and will be performing throughout the year at local venues and national arts festivals, including the Philly Fringe Festival.

In Statue Park (By Store 24)

7:30-9pm

Kitsune Dance Performance

Led by choreographer Deborah Buter, Somerville-based Kitsune draws its movement from Butoh (a post-WWII Japanese choregraphy), yoga and flamenco. Donning white costumes and white face makeup, the Kitsune dancers will begin their performance as “living statues.”Then, subtly, the dancers will start to move, morphing into a surreal slow motion performance. A score will be provided by two musicians on accordian and electronics.

8pm

Traffic island poker games

In keeping with the ArtBeat theme of "Play," folks will be setting up al fresco in Davis Square to play a selection of board and card games. Gambling, of course, is strictly prohibited.
