In the Fall of 2020, the Arts Council has launched a new grant program to support the local BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color) community with a special emphasis on serving the Black community and celebrating Black culture. This grant program was designed to serve individual BIPOC artists, as well as build organizational capacity to provide leadership in arts presenting, programming and instruction that predominantly serves BIPOC culture.
We provided Fellowships of up to $4,000 and Project grants of between $3,000 and $15,000 each.
A special thanks to the City Council and the Mayor for this support.
And a huge thanks to five members of Somerville’s BIPOC community who volunteered to help with outreach and jury review; Tori Weston, Melika Fitzhugh, Kpafun, Peter Marquez, Janette Anne Santos.
10 BIPOC Individual fellowships received $35,000
12 Organizations and Individuals received BIPOC Project grants $121,000
